June 26, 2012 - On June 17th 2012, Eighty-seven students from the Michigan State University Weekend MBA program arrived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for a week-long residency course focused on the opportunities, costs and risks of conducting business outside the U.S.

Each year, the Weekend MBA Global Marketplace highlights a specific region that has a diverse culture and an emerging economy. Students travel to gain first-hand experience with the business and culture of this destination.

This year over 50% of the Weekend MBA class of 2013 have chosen to participate in the international program, making the 2012 Global Marketplace in Brazil the largest Study Abroad Program at MSU this year.

The Weekend MBA curriculum takes an international perspective that sets it apart from other part-time MBA programs of its kind.

Advanced executive MBA coursework helps to provide a foundation for cultural learning. Activities during the Global Marketplace program focus on presentations by in-country experts and site visits to a range of international businesses and industries.

This year Global Marketplace participants will travel to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and meet with business professionals from large international corporations such as General Motors, Azul Airlines, Dow Chemical, and Alcoa.

Past Global Marketplace experiences have taken place in Belgium, Japan, Sweden, Czech Republic, China, and South Korea.

MSU has been a leader in international programming since 1956, when it became the first major public institution in the U.S. to make international programs a critical part of the university's mission.

Since then, MSU has emerged as one of the Top 100 Global Universities (Newsweek/MSNBC) and consistently leads the nation in study abroad participation.
