A newer, more user-friendly website specialising in travel to West Africa has just been launched by an award-winning photographer. The new site, which is located at www.fromhere2timbuktu.com, will also be optimised for a range of mobile devices, including tablet PCs and mobile smart phones.

The new site, which trades on the experience of Guy Lankester, a veteran of travel in West Africa, contains an introductory video and a free buyers' guide. The buyers guide will include special advice on how tourists can identify and avoid the usual pitfalls when travelling to the continent.

From Here 2 Timbuktu is a travel company that organises and operates overland journeys, small group trips and tailor-made travel tours across the Sahara and beyond. The company also offer trips in the Caribbean and it can can fix and facilitate expeditions, film shoots and bespoke trips. The company prides itself on an approach that helps its fellow travellers see the amazing continent of Africa from a "fresh, African perspective."

The new site is the brainchild of Guy Lankester, who was born in Zimbabwe. When he was 18, Guy got a taste for travel and adventure when he began travelling around the continent taking photographs.

He says: "I went off and discovered real Africa, black Africa, an Africa with a human history stretching right back to the birth of man."

Guy has hitch-hiked, bussed, trekked, trucked, horsed, cameled and boated all over the the continent. He has travelled over deserts and into jungles, up mountains and down rivers. He says of his experiences: "Always for me the exhilarating open scenery and the magnificent wildlife are a stunning back drop to the most vibrant and fascinating aspect of Africa - its people and their diverse, vibrant and resilient cultures."

Guy is a prize-winning photographer. Earlier this year he won a category award, Photographer Of The Year for a shot taken in Esu, Cameroon (which is often known as the Kingdom at the End of the Road). Esu is also where Guy got the inspiration behind From Here 2 Timbuktu.

Guy has also launched a handsome photography website, which can be accessed at http://africa-photography.photoshelter.com, to showcase his excellent landscape and portrait work.
