November songwriting supernova to hit Dallas, Texas

October 25, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
October 25, 2012 - It's written in the stars, written in the bars, on napkins and in bathrooms, on the consoles of their cars. There will be new songs written and recorded over 24 hours in a race that will energize and revitalize Dallas Music.

November 16 is the start date for Dallas pop and rock musicians to register for the 2012 Dallas Music Race. In this creative event 10 teams of local musicians are challenged to compose, perform and record an original song using a 24 hour time limit plus 2 hours recording time. This is the third time we've held the 24 hour music race – the previous events were huge successes back in September, 2008 and February 2011.

The event begins on November 16, 2012 and there is still time to register. You may register or follow the event's progress at the website http://www.24hourmusicrace.com

Participation is free, recording time is free and the resulting songs will be shared free. Key elements: include 2 lyric phrases in each song, provided to each team at their race kick off meeting. One element will refer to Dallas (or Texas), and the other will be randomly drawn from a box of wrapped fortune cookies.

This fun event showcases Dallas musicians and lets Dallas rock listeners learn more about the hard working, ambitious talent that exists in our hometown.

The project is organized by the Dallas Rock Meetup Group, an internet-based social networking group offering free membership to Dallas rock music bands and listeners. Past events included featured live performances and workshops designed to introduce Dallas listeners to home-grown Dallas music, as an alternative to nationally syndicated corporate marketing.

Studio time will be donated by Garland Recording Studio, of Garland, Texas.

NOW IS THE TIME to organize a team for the 24 hour music race. If you don't have a team, you can form one by contacting musicians on Meetup and elsewhere. The music race is a community event where musicians are challenged creatively, using the structure of a time-limited composition project.
