Professionals clamber to move to the mines

November 15, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Most Australian professionals would be keen to work in the booming resources industry if given the opportunity, according to the latest research by leading recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

The survey of over 1000 Australian professionals found that 65% would be willing to earn a premium and be based on a remote mining site or in a fly-in fly-out capacity. Further, 62% believe the high wages in the sector are deserved and proportionate.

Manager of mining recruitment Adam Harris adds, "A role within the mining sector can be very rewarding, but it's also extremely hard work. The long hours and remote locations can take a toll on a person's work/life balance and family. However, many people in the industry are very passionate about their jobs, thrive on the excitement and of course, the remuneration also helps. With all of the press surrounding the skill shortages being experienced it's good to know so many people are open to a career change, and we encourage anyone with transferable skills to look into a role in mining, and benefit more directly from the boom."

The survey also found that 81% of professionals feel more confident about the strength of the Australian economy due to a strong resources sector.
