DRUG EDUCATION MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The shocking truth about psychiatric drugs - Lecture tour announced

‘Drug Education Making a Difference' was introduced to East Grinstead this week when the founders of a new California-based company, Label Me Sane Productions, visited local groups to promote their unique and successful drug education lectures for its UK tour scheduled next April.

Label Me Sane was established in 2003 after Alesandra Rain and Andrea Crocker found most drug education lectures didn't give enough importance to prescription drug abuse. Rain, a survivor of prescription drug addiction herself, insists she is no victim but understands there is a lack of information given to people who are prescribed certain types of prescription drugs such as psychotropics and behavioural drugs.

"Thousands of people die from prescription drugs every year, millions more are left severely addicted and thousands more take their own lives,' says Rain. "Something needs to be done about that,' she continues. "I have lectured to so many people who have told me about their own personal horror stories while mostly on psychiatric or psychotropic drugs. The debilitating side effects that leave them crippled and in pain, sometimes for life, are often dismissed as ‘rubbish' or ‘psychological' by many psychiatrists and medical doctors who prescribe them.'

Label Me Sane lectures to college students, parents, teachers and corporate businesses, claiming that prescription drugs are the fastest growing sector of worldwide health care costs with health care continuing to be the largest component of most government budgets. Currently mental illness costs the U.K. more as a society than crime. This includes care provided by the NHS, lost output to the economy, and most significantly in the human cost of the reduced quality of life, and loss of life. Label Me Sane addresses the illusion of mental illness and its treatment of the symptoms alone rather than treating the true underlying causes.

Having experienced first hand what the withdrawals can do to a person, Rain is shocked at the lack of information given out by those prescribing the drugs. She claims people often get incorrectly diagnosed and labelled with all sorts of false psychiatric disorders and even locked up in psychiatric wards for long periods, just because psychiatrists and doctors don't recognise side effects of the drugs they prescribe.

In the UK, she claims there are over 2 million people on one well-known antidepressant that has been associated with suicide, and the stimulant prescription rate for children soared 9,200% over a recent eight-year period! Additionally, parents are not informed about the potential suicidal feelings that can arise when amphetamines (stimulants) are prescribed to treat behavioural issues in children.

"My lectures don't tell people not to take drugs,' insists Rain, "but they do encourage people to find out for themselves about side effects and what drugs can do to the mind and body. I want people who attend my lectures to go home empowered to think for themselves and look at all the facts. After all, most illicit drugs are cast off psychiatric prescription drugs of the past,' concluded Rain.

Some lectures have already been booked for April 2005 at venues in East Grinstead and London, including the Wealden House Life Improvement Centre on the Lewes Road, East Grinstead and the College of Naturopathy, London and more bookings are being taken.

Any businesses facing stress in the workplace, increased absenteeism or loss of revenue due to errors or poor productivity would benefit from this presentation. Universities or organizations are faced with the same challenges as businesses with symptoms of poor concentration, lack of energy and increased stress.
