The TriState Pain and Neurosurgery Institute Welcomes Dr. Len Sarff to Practice

March 14, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Len Sarff, PhD, has nearly 30 years of clinical experience regarding all psychological aspects of pain medicine. As part of this experience, Dr. Sarff focuses his effort on relieving stress, addressing pain without the use of medications, and creating positive lifestyle changes. The TriState Pain and Neurosurgery Institute and its team of medical professionals welcomes Dr. Sarff as our pain psychologist.

Since becoming a clinical psychologist in 1984, Dr. Sarff maintains a personal interest and professional niche assisting his patients on managing their pain. Whether it is overcoming fears related to the perception of pain, developing strategies to take the focus off of discomfort, or assisting in considering treatment options, Dr. Sarff provides an individualized approach for each and every patient. Recognizing the role of medication treatments for pain management, Dr. Sarff is currently working on his postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Psychology on the use of pain related psychopharmacology, integrative pain management, and self-directed patient insight to reduce discomfort. Dr. Sarff is able to use in-house psychological testing to help assess inherent and acquired tendencies that magnify pain. A biofeedback program is planned to help relax muscles, reduce pain, improve range of motion, and expand activity.

By understanding the psychology of pain, including the negative perception people have towards it, Dr. Sarff offers a positive outlook, achievable expectations, and treatments specific to each patient's condition. All circumstances surrounding pain management are amenable to the efforts of Dr. Sarff, and at all times remain directed towards healing and relief. Furthermore, when no anatomic or physiologic origin of pain can be found, comprehensive psychological assessment is invaluable to avoid issues of chronic pain personality and addiction. The TriState Pain and Neurosurgery Institute is proud to welcome Dr. Sarff, and to offer concurrent psychological and pain management.

The TriState Pain and Neurosurgery Institute is open Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. Regularly scheduled after hour and weekend appointments are available on occasion.
