Roseville, CA – Always Best Care Senior Services announced at its International Conference in Las Vegas last month that its franchisees had raised more than $50,000 in Walks to End Alzheimer's, the annual series of events sponsored by the national Alzheimer's Association.

"$53,671.78 is the exact number," said Michael Newman, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Always Best Care. "Our franchisees stepped up and formed 56 teams across the country, and recruited 365 volunteers to help us fight this dreaded disease."

Founded in 1996, Always Best Care is one of the fastest growing senior care franchise systems in the USA and Canada. The company delivers a combination of non-medical in home care, assisted living referral and placement assistance and skilled home health care through an international network of more than 180 independently owned and operated franchised territories.

Alzheimer's disease has no current cure, but treatments for symptoms are available and research continues, according to the Alzheimer's Association. Although current Alzheimer's treatments cannot stop Alzheimer's from progressing, they can temporarily slow the worsening of dementia symptoms and improve quality of life for those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.

More than 5.4 million Americans currently suffer from the disease – 5.2 million are aged 65 and over. By 2050, the Alzheimer's Association projects that up to 16 million will have the disease.

It is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the USA that cannot be prevented or cured. One in eight older Americans (65+) has Alzheimer's disease, and nearly half of people aged 85 and older have the disease.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is one of the largest events in the United States, with walks taking place in more than 600 communities across the country. For more information about Alzheimer's disease and how you can join the fight to find a cure, visit www.alz.org.

Always Best Care works closely with the Alzheimer's Association in a variety of ways, and has sponsored educational webinars on the Early Warning Signs of Alzheimer's and the Role of Exercise in Delaying the onset of Alzheimer's.
