Oil & gas salaries set to increase for contract professionals

March 20, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The salaries of contract professionals in the oil and gas market are set to increase by up to 5.8%, according to the latest Global Salary Survey from specialist recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

The survey found that the biggest increases in the contract space are expected for geologists at up to 5.8%, cost engineers at up to 4.4%, and cementing field supervisors at up to 3.5%.

Darren Richards, Robert Walters manager of oil and gas recruitment explains, "The increased demand for contract personnel can be attributed in part to organisations investing in shorter term projects, and the need to compensate for the cessation of the Living Away From Home Allowance. As several key projects enter construction phase in 2013, the oil and gas contract market is expected to stay strong."

The survey also found;
  • If recent forecasts are correct, Western Australia will have approximately 12,000 new roles created across the projects space, which could lead to a major skills shortage in 2013
  • The demand for qualified, experienced local hires will be offset by the arrival of skilled international professionals, and the reinvestment of larger organisations into education and training
  • Many organisations transitioned their contract employees to permanent as they sought to secure proven professionals on long term roles

  • Now in its 14th year, the Robert Walters Global Salary Survey is the most comprehensive of its kind. Compiled by the company's dedicated research team and covering all 24 countries and disciplines in which Robert Walters specialises, the latest edition offers an overview of salaries and recruitment trends from 2012, as well as those expected in 2013.
