GMC Yukon Tops Competitors in Strategic Vision Total Quality Index

RAYNHAM, Mass., May 22, 2013 — While some auto research firms simply measure the number of problems a vehicle experiences when quantifying quality, Strategic Vision also factors in customer perception and passion in its Total Quality Index (TQI). In the study's Large Utility category this year, the 2013 GMC Yukon rose to the top after vehicle buyers were surveyed on those comprehensive criteria.

For its 2013 TQI, Strategic Vision gathered feedback from more than 17,000 consumers who purchased a 2013-model-year vehicle from September to November of 2012. They were asked about 155 specific aspects of the purchasing and ownership experiences, including tangible problems as well as perception and satisfaction rated on a scale ranging from "I Love It" to "A Failure." With a score of 893 out of 1,000, the GMC Yukon topped its segment, followed by two other GM vehicles in the top three, the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL.

"The 2013 Strategic Vision TQI shows that the GMC Yukon resonates with its buyers more than any other vehicle in its class, and it rewards them with reliability day in and day out," said Gary Carter, general sales manager of Mastria Buick GMC Cadillac, a Massachusetts GMC dealer near Boston. "Whether it's the big-time capability that won't break the bank at the gas pump or the ability to transport the entire starting lineup of a baseball team, the Yukon has a lot for its owners to love."

The nine-passenger GMC Yukon houses a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine that produces 320 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque while still returning a class-leading 21 mpg on the highway. Drivers won't have any trouble getting their boats back to the water this summer, as the Yukon has a towing capacity of up to 8,500 pounds.

Inside, the GMC Yukon makes the most of its cavernous cabin with available features like a DVD system for entertaining the kids and second-row power fold-and-tumble seats that provide easy access to the third row. When it is time to haul larger objects like furniture or home-improvement materials, the SUV offers 108.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats, and an optional power rear liftgate can enable simpler load-ins.

"It can be easy to get a little lazy when you're designing an SUV as large as the Yukon, but GMC engineers made smart use of every inch of space," added Carter. "Even with its imposing stature, the Yukon has the ability to drive like a smaller vehicle, thanks to its V8 engine that can run on just four cylinders when the extra power isn't needed."
