With medical aesthetics training readily available, many consumers are becoming more and more discerning about the medical professionals they seek for medical aesthetics procedures. Today, most patients prefer board certified medical professionals specializing in various fields of medical aesthetics. The American Academy of Procedural Medicine (A.A.O.P.M.) offers board certification pathways for physicians in aesthetics, medicine, surgery and pain management.

Following comprehensive medical aesthetics training, there are five steps medical professionals can take on the path to board certification. Board certification requires a minimum of three months in good standing with the A.A.O.P.M. Medical professionals will also have to fulfill the required medical aesthetic training and attend a minimum number of courses in their chosen specialty. The next step is to submit two patient case studies in the chosen area of specialty. Finally, medical professionals must integrate newly learned techniques into clinical practice for at least six months, and pass all written and oral exams.

Becoming a board certified physician is an achievement available to select individuals committed to becoming recognized in their field of medicine. A.A.O.P.M. works with its members to ensure successful completion of all requirements, including proficiency during the hands-on portion of the training, and to receive a passing score on the practical exam provided at the conclusion of each program.

Board certification in a specific field of medicine or medical aesthetics offers numerous benefits for doctors, as well as patients. Medical professionals will have the opportunity to take their skills to the highest level within their specific specialty, while patients have the benefit of knowing they have a highly- trained medical professional working on their case. Upon becoming board certified, physicians will have access to A.A.O.P.M. proprietary marketing tools that will help them seek new patients and establish credibility.
