MINI's Monthly Sales Reach an All-Time High in June

PEABODY, Mass., July 19, 2013 — In 2012, MINI achieved its highest annual sales since arriving in America more than a decade ago. This year, the eccentric auto brand is on pace to break that record, capping off the first half of 2013 with its best-ever monthly sales in June.

With 6,571 models sold last month, MINI's sales rose by 10 percent in the United States compared to June 2012. Year-to-date, the brand's sales are now up by 1 percent compared to the same period last year, totaling 32,356 units. Even sales of used MINI models have been surging, increasing by 16 percent year-over-year in June while jumping 19 percent year-over-year through the first six months of 2013.

"MINI has become less of a niche brand as it has expanded its lineup to seven models, and its impressive sales today are partially due to the numerous choices that drivers can consider," said Gary King, general manager of MINI of Peabody, a Greater Boston MINI dealer. "The MINI Cooper remains the best-seller, but the introduction of the larger Countryman a few years back brought more capability and versatility to the mix, and recent launches like the MINI Paceman and Roadster offer uniquely sporty options for buyers."

On Saturday, Aug. 3, MINI will be trying to break a different kind of record with its expanded lineup, as the auto brand looks to organize the largest-ever parade of MINIs. The goal is to attract at least 1,451 MINI vehicles and their owners to Mackinaw City, Mich., where they will be counted for a Guinness World Record as they cross the historic Mackinac Bridge.

Spanning more than 26,000 feet and standing 500 feet tall, the Mackinac Bridge offers a high-profile location for a record-setting MINI parade. The current record was set in 2009, with 1,450 MINI models filling the two-mile racing circuit surrounding London's Crystal Palace park. MINI is planning a number of festivities around this year's attempt, and interested MINI owners can register at

"You'd be hard-pressed to find another auto brand that is dedicated to creating events like MINI on the Mack for its customers, and that sense of fun carries over into every MINI vehicle," added King. "MINI owners are a passionate bunch, as we personally saw once again at the annual MINIs on Top gathering at Mount Washington last month."
