MET Partners with Astrum Helicopters to Offer New Maya Mountain River Decent Expeditions in Belize
September 24, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel NewsMountain Equestrian Trails (MET), a family-owned and operated Eco-resort in Western Belize, announce the upcoming dates for their Maya Mountain River Decent Expeditions for the 2013-2014 season. MET has partnered with Astrum Helicopters Belize in order to offer helicopter drops into the jungles of Belize as a starting point for these new expeditions.
This excursion offers something for those athletic thrill-seekers who want to experience the most seldom traveled parts of Belize. MET's specially-trained guides will take visitors on the ride of their life.
The expedition begins when you arrive at the remote jungle lodge at MET. This is the base of operations where you will spend the first and final nights of the trip. The next morning, the adventure begins with as scenic drive through to the helicopter departure point in the mountains. The helicopter flight takes you over rugged jungle terrain of the Maya Mountains and into the upper reaches of the pristine Rio de Dos Quebrados. Using inflatable kayaks, spend five days descending this pristine waterway, an unforgettable journey that MET pioneered first in 1994.
This wilderness river descends to the lowlands of Belize through breathtaking canyons of lush rainforest landscapes. The river presents a combination of calm passages flowing through deep chasms overhanging with vegetation and fast moving sections of rapids as well as beautiful waterfalls. Be prepared to see a large variety of wildlife including tapirs, otters and countless species of birds.
Although this is a true wilderness adventure, we will have emergency communication equipment. MET's expedition guides are trained in wilderness navigation, search & rescue and advanced medical treatment, as well as in the use of bush medicine. This is a Class III strenuous kayak river expedition and all participants are expected to be in good physical condition, agile enough to navigate slippery terrain and strong enough to carry personal and group gear over rugged terrain as required. This trip is most suited for the energetic strong adventurer who wants a journey that offers challenges on a route seldom traveled.
