The Refrigeration School Offers Fundamentals of Solar Scholarship

The Refrigeration School is offering students the opportunity to expand their technical skills through a new scholarship program. RSI graduates of the school's Electro-Mechanical Technologies program who are planning on earning the Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering are eligible for a scholarship covering the costs of the Fundamentals of Solar Course, which was a later addition to the course's curriculum.

The maximum award for the scholarship is $1985 per student. Students must apply for the scholarship before enrolling in the Fundamentals of Solar Course. The course itself provides students with an overview of photovoltaic science, PV system design, and solar panel installation training.

The Associate of Occupational Studies in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering degree program is divided into two main components. The first is the 9-month Electro-Mechanical Technologies program, held on the RSI campus. The program provides hands-on practice learning the core skills and fundamental theories of working with commercial and residential HVAC and electrical systems.

With the Electro-Mechanical Technologies program serving as a foundation, the second component is a 6-month series of upper level classes. These courses are more academic in nature than other programs offered at RSI. At the same time, they rely on the hands-on experience and practical skills learned in the Electro-Mechanical Technologies portion of the program.

The AOS upper level courses teach students about air conditioning (heating and cooling), refrigeration, and the construction and maintenance of electrical systems. Graduates will come away with the skills needed to pursue careers in commercial and residential HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration).
