Dr. Sandip Sachar Now Offering BPA-Free, White Dental Fillings in Manhattan

October 21, 2014 - NEW YORK, NY – General and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sandip Sachar announced that she will be providing white fillings free of the chemical bisphenal-A (BPA) in her midtown Manhattan dental practice.

As a chemical compound, BPA is found in everything from CDs to plastic bottles and the coatings of cans. Dr. Sachar's move to BPA-free white fillings is prompted by growing concerns about its safe use. BPA can interfere with how natural hormones are made, transported, and function. Studies have linked it to many different health problems, including reproductive disorders, heart disease, cancer, asthma, difficulty with memory and learning, and other health conditions.

"Modern dental fillings and sealants technically don't contain any BPA initially," Dr. Sachar says, "but the chemicals in those products contain compounds that convert to BPA once they come into contact with the saliva in the mouth. Offering fillings that don't have these compounds is a simple way to protect the patients I treat."

Dr. Sachar hopes that providing the BPA-free fillings will encourage people to get the dental work they need. She notes that many people already have fears about going to a dentist, putting off appointments because they want to avoid discomfort and dental anxiety. Concerns about BPA on top of these issues might push individuals even further away.

"As a dentist, my first priority is always my patients' health. I want my patients to have results that look amazing." Dr. Sachar explains, "but I also want my patients to get excellent care that is safe for their overall well-being. With BPA-free white fillings, I know I'm not putting people in harm's way and that I'm helping them achieve their ideal, healthy smile. It's as much about ethics as it is aesthetics."
