Grand River Academy Discovers New Trends on the Affordability of a Boarding School Education

January 22, 2015 - For many Americans across the country, the cost of a good or service plays a big role in ultimately choosing whether or not to make a purchase. In recent years, one of the biggest costs that Americans face comes with their son's or daughter's educational fees.

A boarding school education is, without a doubt, one of the best ways to prepare your child for future success, but is it accessible to everyone? In a recent survey, Grand River Academy has learned that 60% of Americans feel that private boarding schools are exclusive to the wealthier families across the United States.

While the majority of Americans feel that financing a boarding school education for their son or daughter is slightly out of reach, Grand River Academy was able to uncover some emerging trends. Based on the survey results, the youngest demographic of survey participants felt more positively about their chances of being able to fund a boarding school education. Slightly under half of the survey participants between the ages of 25 and 34 felt that a boarding school education was within their financial means.

A possible reason for this discrepancy in thought amongst survey participants is that younger Americans are becoming more aware of the financing options available to help them fund a boarding school education. By exploring all available options, more families are discovering that a boarding school education for their child may be within reach.

Similar to higher learning institutions, many boarding schools make financial aid available for their students. Need-based grants are available to students and their families who may need a little extra financial support when paying for their boarding school education. Need-based financial aid is typically awarded annually, so families must be certain to reapply each year to help them take advantage of these extra funds.

Beyond a boarding school's financial aid resources, students and their families can seek out extra financial assistance through scholarships and loans. No matter what boarding school you choose, it is important that you take the time to explore all financing options.

When it comes to your child's education, the cost shouldn't limit your options. For an in-depth discussion on Grand River's findings, check out their blog post at www.grandriver.org/school-life/blog/can-your-family-afford-a-boarding-school-education.
