Program Designed to Address Growth of Video Game Industry in Frisco

FRISCO, TX (April 16, 2015) - The North Texas Enterprise Center (NTEC), in partnership with game development studio Mish Mash Machine, is launching a program that combines the collaboration, camaraderie and creativity of a weekend game jam with the time, processes and supporting services required to produce a commercially viable release.

Mish Mash Labs @ NTEC (MML@NTEC) is based on a co-op model in which game designers work to develop professional-quality video games with ancillary services like project management, quality assurance, distribution, marketing and publishing support provided by the MML team - which allows participants to focus entirely on building great games.

The program includes access to the latest development kits from top software and hardware firms; art design, level editing and project management workshops, guest speakers, opportunities to showcase work and secure seed funding, as well as a generous profit sharing program for developers that decide to publish their game with Mish Mash Machine.

With game developer Gearbox Software set to move into the Tower at Frisco Square late this year, a video game themed restaurant opening in the same building and plans for a National Video Game Museum at the Frisco Discovery Center underway, Mish Mash Labs @ NTEC was conceived in-part to address demand created by progress toward city leaders' vision of establishing Frisco at the forefront of the multi-billion dollar gaming industry.

"We know from our experience with NTEC's accelerator program that building a community of creators and innovators who share a common passion can be a very effective way to develop local talent," said Christina Carlisle, NTEC's Director of Programs. "By providing the framework, environment and support that program participants need to collaborate and build strong teams, we're planting the seeds for further developing Frisco into a place where talented gaming professionals produce world-class games."

"We are very excited to be working with NTEC to help grow and strengthen the local gaming industry," said Mario Latham, Mish Mash Machine co-founder and CEO. "By focusing on publishing great games using area talent, MML@NTEC offers game developers in and around Frisco an excellent chance to strengthen their portfolio hone their game design chops, both of which are essential to getting hired by a top publisher or building your own gaming company."

Mish Mash Labs @ NTEC will kick off this weekend (April 18-19) with a free and open-to-the-public game jam where participants will get a chance to meet the MML team, learn more about the program and check out NTEC's state-of-the-art facility, which will act as the co-op's home base. Game jam participants will also be given the exclusive opportunity to participate in the program for two weeks free of charge.
