San Diego's Brothers Gow Music Foundation Rocks an "OBIE" Award for Promoting Youth Music Education

November 19, 2015 - San Diego, CA – The Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors recognized the Brothers Gow Music Foundation (BGMF) with an OBTC Award, Programs for Youth, at their annual Awards Dinner on October 21, 2015. The Foundation was cited for its significant contribution to music accessibility and education in Ocean Beach and nearby communities of San Diego.

Senator Marty Block (D-39), U.S. Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52), San Diego District 2 Councilmember Lorie Zapf, and Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) also gave special recognition and commendations to the Brothers Gow Music Foundation for their commitment to promoting youth music education programs and other enrichment activities.

"We've had so much support from local residents and businesses in providing opportunities for kids to be involved in music," said Brothers Gow guitarist and vocalist Ethan Wade. "It's an honor to be recognized with the OBIE." Other members of the Brothers Gow band include Alex Gow Bastine, keyboard/vocals, Kyle Merrill, guitar/trumpet/vocals, Nathan Walsh, drums/vocals and Carson Church, bass.

BGMF has partnered with and supported the Autism Society San Diego, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Point Loma High School Athletics, Academic and Arts Program, and the Ocean Beach Rock and Roll Music School.

About the Brothers Gow Music Foundation - Originally formed in Flagstaff Arizona in 2007, the five-piece Brothers Gow band plays a soulful and energetic blend of rock, funk, reggae, and jam. The members started the non-profit Brothers Gow Music Foundation in 2014 with the primary goal of keeping music education alive and accessible to young generations of the Ocean Beach Community. The Foundation's first charitable event raised enough money to put a stringed instrument in all 18 classrooms at Ocean Beach Elementary School.
