WSKG Radio to hold “ONE-DAY WEDNESDAY”
Pledge Drive Jan. 25
Goal: 600 New & Lapsed members in one day rather than the usual 10

BINGHAMTON, NY - After incredible numbers of new and rejoining members came forward on the last day of the October pledge drive, WSKG CEO Gary Reinbolt wondered “What if we did the last day first?” Coupled with news of success many public radio stations are having with a “more programming, less fundraising” approach, WSKG Radio was encouraged to reduce the usual 10-day January pledge drive to one day… “One-Day Wednesday,” January 25th. 600 listeners are asked to support the station as new or lapsed members on that day.

“I nearly fainted when they told me we plan to take 600 phone calls on one day,” said WSKG's Volunteer Coordinator Carol Gorton. “I'm very busy looking for 20 volunteers to answer phones for each shift January 25th.” In fact, listeners can pledge on the web at WSKG.com and in person in addition to calling. Those who choose to pledge in person at WSKG's studios at 601 Gates Road, Vestal may choose a 30th-anniversary thank you gift (t-shirt, mug) to take home with them for a pledge paid-in-full.

“We have high hopes for this new kind of pledge drive,” said CEO Reinbolt. “Listeners prefer to listen to regular programming, and staff prefers to provide regular programming. If our listeners show we can meet our revenue goals in one day rather than ten, we'll be encouraged to try more of these sorts of shortened pledge drives.”
