Index Engines Extends High Speed Inline Indexing Platform to Networked Attached Storage

January 24, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
HOLMDEL, N.J. - (January 24, 2006)  Index Engines (www.indexengines.com), a leading developer of indexing software and appliances for the enterprise, today announced Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) support for both Network Appliance and EMC Celerra devices. The Index Engines NDMP controller can schedule and initiate data transfers from up to 64 NAS devices simultaneously and index unstructured data at speeds up to 60 MB/second. Each appliance can index up to 64 million files and can be clustered to support environments containing over 4 billion files. Once indexing is complete, full content, secure search of this data is available via a browser based interface.

NAS devices contain large volumes of valuable corporate data that is often difficult to navigate. Indexing this content, making it searchable, allows users to easily find what they need in seconds. All users would benefit from the ability to search unstructured files, from typical knowledge workers looking to improve productivity, to senior compliance officers requiring comprehensive discovery in support of regulatory requirements. Index Engines appliance is designed to easily integrate into the existing infrastructure and ingest data at high speeds and perform full text and metadata indexing. The resulting index is stored on the Index Engines appliance, and consumes only 8% of the original data for storage.

“Our goal is to index enterprise data regardless of where it may reside,” said Tim Williams, Index Engines CEO. “Our initial integration into the SAN to support tape backups, and now our support of NetApp and EMC Celerra, extends our indexing platform from tape archive to NAS filers and is a major step in our objective of providing enterprise wide discovery.”

The Index Engines appliance with NDMP support is available immediately. The entry level appliance is priced at $29,500 and supports 2 million files. Contact Index Engines at (732) 817-1060 or visit their Website at www.indexengines.com for more information.
