Holmdel, NC - A consumer transformed her chilly experience of freezing in the early morning hours for a flu shot space into a resource for everyone else.

Once a given, obtaining a flu shot has become a challenging task. The loss of the Chiron flu vaccine has resulted in a strict eligibility list for the majority of consumers. Once consumers are okayed to receive a flu shot vaccine, they must then discover a clinic or medical facility where they are offered. But the journey doesn't end there; often consumers must wait in line, even outdoors, in order to finally obtain their flu shot.

Barbara of Holmdel had a first-hand experience with this. Early in November, she left her home at 3am to secure a flu line shot spot for some elderly friends in Northern NJ. At 6am, she joined the line and stood outside in 28 degree weather until the doors opened after 8am.

"It was then that I realized I could have done so much more to ensure my immediate health," Barbara said. "Many other elderly consumers had come prepared with blankets, scarves and other clothing…but not everyone had brought a chair to help them with their wait. Some people carried books that their thick gloves made impossible to read. Others had drunk coffee prior to standing on line, resulting in Nature's call (and the nearest bathroom was across the parking lot)."

A website designer by trade, Barbara built the free site http://www.FluShotsOnline.com to help others who will brave the elements for a flu shot. She researched state and local health department flu clinic resources and put them on http://www.FluShotsOnline.com/flu_shots_state.html , compiled a list of 16 line waiting tips at http://www.FluShotsOnline.com/flu_line_waiting_tips.html , uncovered flu activity sites at http://www.FluShotsOnline.com/flu_networks.html and more. All of the information is available for free.

"Waiting on line for a flu shot, especially if you're elderly, is bad enough," said Barbara. "I hope people will take advantage of the experience I had to make their own far more positive."
