An excerpt of the review from IndieReader follows:
Cartwright has created a one-of-a-kind tale of power and politics in his latest western…Cartwright's third person narrative includes a highly defined cast of heroes, villains, and a flurry of minor characters, many of which function as foils. While surrounding his cast with the flavor of the Old West (i.e., saloons, cattle ranching, card gambling), Cartwright punctuates a bit of history into his plot, such as the Comstock Lode near Virginia City. Key to Cartwright's writing style is his incorporation of engaging dialogue within alternating character scenes. Yet closing on a cliffhanger, Cartwright dangles a hint that the Maynwarings' story will continue.
THE MAYNWARINGS: A GAME OF CHANCE is an appealing western read with a edgy political twist.
Mr. Cartwright issued the following statement:
I am honored to be the recipient of an IndieReader Discovery Award. This is one of the preeminent awards for indie authors, and I'm excited that The Maynwarings received this recognition. The panel of judges is always top notch, and they hold indie authors' works to a high standard. Winning this award is a testament to the love and hard work put into crafting what I believe is one of my best overall stories. I'm humbled and grateful, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the judges, reviewers, and everyone at IndieReader for this recognition and for all they do for indie authors.
