Steeler's Safety Troy Polamalu's Secret Weapon

February 01, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Sports News
He is a hero and legend to many, but around Sports Lab in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA you can hear the regulars referring to exercises as a, “Polamalu Special”….meaning almost impossible. Sports Lab creates new ways to push their athletes’ nervous system and body circuitry to the limit and Troy is always up for the challenge helping to create new, more dynamic and explosive exercises.

Nothing Troy does is conventional, and especially the way he prepares himself physically for the NFL. Troy got his start as a multi-sport athlete at Douglas High in Winston, Oregon where he earned himself a full football scholarship at USC. As a senior at USC, Sports Lab is where Troy prepared himself for the 2003 NFL combine, which tests the athleticism of each individual, and is the primary basis for determining the order in which players are drafted into the NFL. Originally slated as a late 3rd round pick, Troy spent 9 grueling weeks trying to improve his 40 yard dash time, which he did, 4.5 down to 4.3, his vertical jump, 36 inches up to 43 inches, his broad jump, 10 feet up to 10 feet 11 inches.

His work paid off as he was taken as the 16th overall draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1st round. He has continued his training with Sports Lab in each off season and travels from Pittsburgh to Orange County where he stays with his wife’s family for 3 months while he prepares himself for the coming season. He arrives each morning at 10 a.m. and rarely leaves before 5 and is revered by all that train alongside him. His unique combination of athleticism, discipline, humility, and most off all his kindness and respect for others are what make his fans and friends so loyal.

Sports Lab is a dynamic sports performance training facility located in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA in southern Orange County. Sports Lab forgoes the conventional weightlifting systems currently used by college and pro football teams everywhere. The end result is a dramatic improvement in an athlete’s speed, vertical jump, lateral movement and speed strength, combined with the virtual elimination of training injuries that run rampant in the sport. Sport Lab provides a safe and progressive training experience for all athletes of all ages and skill levels from middle school through the professional level in all sports.
