SAN DIEGO, CA, 6/1/17 –Thomas Jefferson School of Law is proud to announce the recipients of the Veterans Clinic Alumni Scholarship for Spring semester 2017.

Veterans Clinic Alumni Scholarships are awarded to the most dedicated students serving the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic (TJVLAC). Scholarships are made possible by funds raised at the annual Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament. This semester's recipients include: Gabriel Gallion '17 and Paul Hilton (3L).

"Gabriel and Paul each did exceptional work this past semester on behalf of their struggling veteran clients. They were diligent, meticulous, and creative in the work that they did," said Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor and Director of the Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic Steve Berenson. "Each was able to draw on their own experience while serving in the military to bring special knowledge and expertise to the often complicated work of representing military veterans."

Since 2006, TJVLAC has successfully provided limited legal assistance, as well as full service legal representation, to the residents and alumni of Veterans Village of San Diego – a highly successful, residential program that provides housing, substance abuse, mental health, and job training services to formerly homeless veterans struggling to regain full participation in society. Under the direction of Professor Steve Berenson, the clinic offers students valuable hands-on experience in handling a wide range of cases spanning family, consumer, and administrative laws.

The mission of Thomas Jefferson School of Law is to provide an outstanding legal education for a nationally-based, diverse student body in a collegial and supportive environment with attention to newly emerging areas of law, particularly those related to technological development, globalization and the quest for social justice. Located in Downtown San Diego, Thomas Jefferson School of Law has evolved into an innovative, cutting-edge law school, devoted to the individual needs and success of its students.
