  • The presentations are meant to "ignite" the audience on a subject, that is, to stimulate thought and action on the topics presented. "We are really excited about the great topics and presenters who have been selected. Where else can you see a Film Maker, Mathematician, and a Comedian together on stage." said Joy Randels, Chairperson for the event. One of the speakers a Marine Biologist Dr. Michael P. Crosby, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium President & CEO said, "I am honored to speak at the 2017 Ignite Tampa Bay. Innovation is the essential forcing function for addressing grand challenges facing our oceans, as the world is witnessing 50- to 100-year old corals dying due to increasing ocean temperature, ocean acidification and other factors. The very coral reefs that are directly linked to our quality of life, our economy and our children's future, are past the tipping point of sliding into extinction - but innovation now provides more than just hope. Recent advances at Mote have led to a fundamental change in previously existing paradigms for coral restoration science – something of a "Coral Lazarus Effect" – and I can't wait to share all about this with the Tampa area community."
