August 30, 2017 - The Law Office of Evan W. Walker is awarding any current 1L, 2L, or 3L a $1500 scholarship for books and a 20-minute a week mentoring session for the Spring 2018 semester. The scholarship is called The John W. Walker III Scholarship.

Applicants must be enrolled in law school and submit proof of enrollment. Applicants must also submit a 1-page essay on the following topic: Actions Have Consequences.

Evan W. Walker, a solo attorney, wants to see law students graduate with less debt and be prepared to practice law. With the scholarship he intends to help the recipient reach both goals.

Evan graduated with over $100,000 in law school debt. He knows firsthand the crushing nature of debt.

After graduating law school in New Orleans as part of the "Hurricane Katrina Class," Evan worked for insurance defense firms and insurance companies to pay off his law school loans. Once the debt was paid off, he opened his own practice in San Diego, California and began representing people who have personal injury or property damage claims.

One purpose behind the scholarship, therefore, is to help offset the crushing burden of law school debt. Another purpose is to mentor the recipient as he or her struggles with the pressure and stress of law school. Evan also wants to give the recipient a realistic idea of practicing law, especially as a solo attorney. His hope is that the recipient will be better prepared to practice law upon graduation.

The scholarship is named after Evan's father. December 5, 2017, is the deadline. Recipients will be chosen and notified by January 5, 2018.
