August 25, 2018 - The Conference of California Bar Associations (CCBA) will present its Charles M. Pfeiffer Award to Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor Lilys McCoy during its annual gathering, which will be held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego from September 13-16. The award recognizes the service and contributions to justice made by the recipient through their work with CCBA, an organization advancing and improving law through the activities of delegates from a diverse group of California bar associations. Professor McCoy is a former chair of CCBA.

Professor McCoy will accept the award at the Chair's Reception, which will be held on Friday evening, September 14. Also receiving awards at the reception will be California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, who will receive the John Van de Kamp Justice through Laws Award, and California Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, who will be named Legislator of the Year.

"I am incredibly honored to be selected for the Pfeiffer Award," said Professor McCoy. "Working with some of the best legal professionals in California to change the law for the better is a privilege. The organization has been a professional passion of mine for over 25 years, and I would encourage anyone interested in legislative advocacy to get involved in the CCBA." "We are so proud of Lilys and consider ourselves fortunate to call her our colleague," said Thomas Jefferson School of Law President and Dean Joan Bullock.

Professor McCoy is the director of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Center for Solo Practitioners and the director of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law National Trial Team. For 20 years prior to joining Thomas Jefferson, Professor McCoy practiced consumer and business litigation, trying both jury trials and bench trials and representing clients in judicial arbitrations, contractual arbitrations, and mediation hearings. She is president-elect of the San Diego County Bar Association. The recipient of many awards from the bar, Professor McCoy was selected as a San Diego Daily Transcript Top Attorney in 2006, 2013, 2014, and 2015 and was selected for San Diego Super Lawyers in 2007 and 2009.
