Avant-garde designer / entrepreneur Grace Edwards’ design entitled “Mayon Volcano Erupting in Rhapsody” has been selected as part of an exhibit at Gallery 128 on 128 Rivington Street in NY (East Village).

The exhibit, “Winter in Milan”, began during NY Fashion Week, is running through March 11, 2006, and has brought local artists and fashion designers from the Lower East Side, together with international artists from as far away as Osaka, Japan.

The exhibit features artists and designers with a unique perspective in terms of the usage of unconventional materials. In “Mayon Volcano Erupting in Rhapsody” Ms. Edwards takes a dress incorporating vintage elements and fabrics that she is known for, and uses red tulle and taffeta fabrics. The process includes soaking the fabrics in liquid glitter, spraying silver beads and forming it into fountains of bright red lava and towering columns of ash and rock fragments.

Ms. Edwards says that she is honored to be part of the exhibit and says that the “Mayon Volcano Erupting in Rhapsody” stemmed from “my fascination, as a young girl, with the most active volcano in the Philippines. It inspired me to create my own rendition of the most beautiful, but deadliest national park in the east central Philippines”.
