SAN FRANCISCO – Appellation America, the fast-growing online wine portal covering the North American Wine Industry, announced the appointment of Lenn Thompson as its Regional Correspondent for Appellation America’s coverage of Long Island, New York.

Thompson, a dedicated and intrepid writer, will chronicle Long Island’s up-and-coming wine industry for Appellation America, a dynamic, sometimes irreverent portal covering each and every wine region in the United States and Canada.

A resident of Long Island for nearly a decade, Thompson founded his wine blog, www.LENNDEVOURS.com, in early 2004 to share his passion for the wines of New York with his readers, and it quickly became the Internet's most resonant independent source for information on Long Island wines. The blog's popularity and reach are evident in its place as a finalist for "Best Blog — Beer, Wine and Spirits" in both the 2004 and 2005 Food Blog Awards.

“Lenn’s a tremendously talented writer and has very strong relationships with all the key players within the wine industry in Long Island,” said Roger Dial, Appellation America Publisher and CEO. “Our readers are going to benefit greatly from his knowledge, passion and unique perspectives.”

Thompson, a resident of Sound Beach, has written extensively for Dan's Papers in the Hamptons, including his weekly "Over the Barrel" column while also contributing regularly to Long Island Press and Long Island Wine Gazette. At present time, he's working on stories, Edible East End and Edible Brooklyn, slated for publication spring and summer 2006, and planning the launch of his own New York wine-focused newsletter, the New York Cork Report.

Thompson believes that wines from Long Island and its two sub-AVAs, North Fork of Long Island and The Hamptons, such as unoaked Chardonnay, Bordeaux-style Merlot and Award-Winning Cabernet Franc's are wines and regions that readers everywhere should keep an eye on and will want to know more about.

“Long Island's dynamic and still-emerging wine industry is producing some absolutely outstanding wines in a way that integrates the best of the old world traditions, with modern techniques,” said Thompson. “At a little over 30 years old, our wine region is still quite young by global standards, and with every vintage our grape growers and winemakers are better mastering our unique terroir — and the wines show it. I look forward to sharing the excitement and excellence of this region with Appellation America’s readers, while helping identify and define its wine's unique taste of place.”
