Health Management Systems Applies ImageNow Document Imaging and Management To Enhance Business Processes

January 05, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
SHAWNEE, KANSAS — Perceptive Software, Inc., today announced that Health Management Systems, Inc. is expanding the company's deployment of ImageNow® document imaging and workflow software to meet growing business needs. HMS, a national leader in revenue recovery and cost containment for government healthcare programs, has virtually eliminated paper processes in its Provider Relations Call Center with the help of ImageNow software. Currently, HMS is implementing the software in a second paper-intensive area: the case management of revenue recoveries from casualty sources.

"Our goal is to streamline work processes in growth areas so that we can allocate staff and resources more efficiently," said William Lucia, president of HMS, a wholly owned subsidiary of HMS Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: HMSY). "We see ImageNow as a strategic partner as we grow."

The spiraling costs of Medicaid and other government healthcare programs have created an urgent demand for HMS's services, which identify and recover expenditures from other liable parties, such as private insurance. HMS has recovered more than $2 billion from third parties on behalf of its clients, and today has active contracts in more than 20 states.

Known for applying advanced technology in its revenue recovery operations, HMS required an equally advanced document imaging solution. In ImageNow, HMS found a cost-effective, flexible and scalable solution that easily integrates into any application, providing a quick return on investment.

"HMS uses everything from mainframe to Web-based applications, so the ability to integrate is crucial. I have never seen a product that is as easy to integrate as ImageNow," said Lucia.

Lucia brought a unique perspective to HMS's choice of ImageNow. In addition to leading healthcare reimbursement organizations, he has spoken and published widely on document imaging and its applications in the insurance industry. With exposure to many of the major vendors in the marketplace, Lucia quickly realized the advantages of the ImageNow solution.

"Clearly, ImageNow has proven that it is far ahead of the other systems we considered," said Lucia.

ImageNow's patented integration technology (LearnMode™) makes it possible for HMS to implement the benefits of document imaging and workflow automation anywhere the solution is needed. As a result, HMS can keep pace with the demand by removing cumbersome, paper-related obstacles throughout the enterprise.

"With ImageNow, HMS is better able to accommodate — and prepare for — business growth," said Lucia. "Our plan is to leverage ImageNow as a key operations tool."
