Unique Termite Technology Receives Environmental Award

Green Builder Magazine awards Overall Grand Prize, Best of Show at the National Green Building Show to Bora-Care®

Green Builder Magazine awards the Grand Prize, Best of Show selection from the National Green Building Conference held in March in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to a unique termite technology that protects the environment, while saving builders one day of cycle time.

Bora-Care termite pretreatment is already used by the top 20 builders in the nation and is rapidly being adopted by builders across the country. This treatment method replaces the old-style soil treatments where 300 gallons of termiticides are pumped into the ground under the average home. The builders who switched in 2005 saved some 45 million gallons of chemicals from being pumped into the ground annually.

A study by the EPA that tested 26 aquifers* around the country showed pesticide presence in 24 of the aquifers. Pesticides are also showing up in streams and lake beds as noted in this EPA study.

A study conducted in Mississippi (Mulrooney, et al. 2006), found that the three tested soil termiticides break down by 50% or more within the first inch of soil in as little as 12 months, resulting in varying degrees of effectiveness against termites. So where soil termiticides need to be reapplied every 3-5 years, a Bora-Care treatment is considered permanent.

In addition to saving millions of gallons of toxic chemicals from being pumped into the soil, Bora-Care is a permanent termite treatment that is HUD allowed and listed in the International Residential Code Section R320—Protection Against Subterranean Termites.

Kevin L. Kirkland, president of Nisus Corporation, the manufacturer of Bora-Care, said, "This is the inaugural award, and when you consider all the amazing green products available, it is a real honor to receive this award. It speaks volumes about Bora-Care."
