Rivertown Label Showcases Out Of This World

When Al Cattabiani sold Wellspring Media, the indie film distribution company he co-founded, he started looking around for new vistas. Overlooking the Hudson River coastline in Westchester County, New York, inspiration was a blink away and GaragistaMusic.com was born.

Garagista is Italian slang for someone who makes wine, literally or figuratively, in his/her own garage. It implies homespun craftsmanship and dedication. Similarly, GaragistaMusic.com features artists who fly below the radar of the mainstream music business, but who nevertheless are first-rate players popular in their communities.

"Patricia completely embodies the Garagista ethic," Cattabiani enthused. She’s passionate about music, dedicated to her craft and energetic in every aspect of her performances. Her repertoire reflects her great taste and love of timeless songs."

Out Of This World scored in four categories on the Grammy nomination ballot. Singing and swinging jazz and blues standards from Tin Pan Alley and Harlem renaissance, Adams’ band highlights composers like Arlen & Mercer, Kay Swift, Jimmy VanHeusen and Billie Holiday, to name a few. GaragistaMusic.com offers the album with its original artwork by watercolorist Bill Commerford at a special rate of $9.99. GaragistaMusic.com also offers a morsel from Corner Of The Sky, a little appetizer, as it were.

In March 2006, here’s how CADENCE Magazine describes her music:
"Patricia Adams is having fun… . She does things like increase the level of a syllable or shift the phrasing just a smidge. Subtle stuff that holds the real meaning within an improvised translation of verse. And the solid savvy remains. For example, she retains her exemplary repertoire, mixing standards with wonderful songs that never quite make the "chestnut" category but should. Hearing compositions that fly under the radar of most songbirds …” CADENCE Magazine, March 2006

About Us: Adams is a Rivertown original. She moved to Hastings on Hudson in 1945 with her family who owned and operated the The Creative Printery at 585 Warburton Avenue until the mid-80’s. Adams graduated from Hastings schools. Her undergraduate and graduate degrees led her to thirty plus years in corporate human resources with several Fortune 500 companies until her retirement in 1998 when she transitioned to full-time musician.

Today,Adams shuttles her renditions of standards from renaissance Harlem and Tin Pan Alley between Manhattan, Westchester, Hartford and Boston. "Patricia Adams sings as if she's been entertaining audiences all her life. How can a woman with this many years in middle management sound so warm and personable, and even a bit like Lena Horne? Go! doesn't know, but she's got it." Amy Graves, Staff Reviewer, THE BOSTON GLOBE

Stepping onto a nightclub stage for the first time in 1992 at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, Adams segued to designated show opener there for the Frank Wilkins Vocal Showcase until 1996. Two years, a hundred open mics and twenty nursing homes later, she took the plunge and traded her thirty-five year career in human resources management for life as a full time artist. Many press kits and phone calls later, her venues now attract those who enjoy the jazz and blues standards of the 1930's and '40's. Her following has grown from family and friends to thousands. Earning BS and MBA degrees in the 1960's, Adams studied music theory, harmony, and improvisation at the New England Conservatory in Boston and at the Performing Arts School of Worcester in the 1990's

Adams' discography includes Live @ Ryles Jazz Club (2005), With Our Compliments ! (2004), Out Of This World (2001) which placed in four categories on the 2001 Grammy Awards ballot, Blue For You (1998), and Raw Silk (1996). Her recordings are available through North Country Distributors in Redwood, NY, cdBaby.com, TowerRecords.com, GaragistaMusic.com and Amazon.com.

Adams is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and served on the board of the New England Conservatory.
