Kansas City, MO- April 24, 2006 In recognition of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Missouri-based Safety and Security Source will work with sexual assault agencies nationwide to provide free products to victims who can’t afford them. The offer will stand for the remainder of the year (2006). Included are pepper sprays, personal alarms and door alarms.

Tracey Hawkins, owner of Safety and Security Source, has been in the safety products business for 11 years and feels that she is now in a position to give back on a higher level. “I will donate personal safety and security products as often as I can afford to when requested by these non-profit agencies.” She states that increasing online sales at her website www.safetyandsecuritysource.com and a major online retailer allows her to be in the position to make this offer.

Hawkins explained that a lot of victims have confided in her their feelings of being prisoners in their own homes because of the helplessness and fear that they feel after being assaulted. They don’t have the knowledge and tools to defend themselves physically. According to Hawkins, they get great counseling and support, but no one can recommend what to carry to physically defend themselves and how to use those products. Also, many times non-profit sexual assault centers don’t have the resources to provide their clients with safety products to protect themselves when they feel the most vulnerable. She encourages agencies to contact her toll-free 1-866-365-4542 for details.

“ I get great joy selling products that help people stay safe. I anticipating getting greater joy helping more people take back their lives after being victimized.”

Pepper sprays can allow a victim to feel safe knowing that they are carrying a product that will physically stop a would-be perpetrator. Warning that nothing is 100% effective all of the time, Hawkins stresses that she recommends the spray formula that law enforcement officials use, pure OC.

“I do not recommend tear gas; CN or CS, because they are pain inducers and not as effective on those under the influence. Pepper spray, OC is most effective and even works on dogs in dangerous situations.” With a quality product, victims can go out and know that they have a chance at protecting themselves, Hawkins states. Spray disables a would-be attacker for 30-40 minutes. A personal alarm is a good alternative or addition because it creates witness potential and ‘screams’ for the would-be victim. She says that door stop alarms gives the peace of mind that when the alarm is in place and wedged under a door, that no one is getting in. An alarm sounds if entry is attempted.

There is not a single mainstream resource for safety products in the U.S. Hawkins goal is to change that and to get Safety and Security Source known as the place to go for quality and reliable safety and security products. Safety and Security Source offers personal safety presentations, safety product expos and a line of safety and security products ranging from pepper spray, to wireless monitors, portable home/travel/apartment alarms and fire extinguishers. She sells her products on a popular online retailer and has shipped products to Italy, Bosnia, Japan and military installments across the world in addition to almost every state in the U.S.
