London, Monday 1 May 2006: Recently appointed chairman of the new FCS Numbering Group, Kieron James has welcomed Ofcom’s decision to delay the completion of its consultation on the numbering review by three weeks to 25 May.

Kieron James says, “We have established a new numbering group within FCS to represent the views of members delivering numbering services to customers and to provide a clear voice for the reseller community, backed by the UK’s trade association.

“Ofcom has consulted on both Number Translation Services (NTS) and its numbering review, which are inextricably linked. We will be considering closely Ofcom’s NTS statement issued on 19 April, since parts of the NTS decision on 0870 appear to be at odds with their proposals in the review.

Jacqui Brookes, FCS CEO, in welcoming Kieron James’ appointment said, “Congratulations to Kieron James on his appointment as chairman of the new group. Kieron is a thoughtful and articulate member of the community and will provide strong leadership to this emerging sector. The delivery of numbers to UK businesses and consumers is a growing and essential sector, whose voice has not been clearly heard, and that is why we have set up a new group within the Federation. “
