The National Weather Digest, Volume 28, dated December 2004 and published in April 2005 included an article titled "Digital Circumpolar Vortex Area Index Calculations for the Northern and Southern Hemisphere."

The authors, Albert Peterlin, ERREx, Inc. and Kenneth L. Scheeringa, Associate State Climatologist for Indiana, conclude that while there is a discernible warming pattern evident in the Northern Hemisphere beginning late in the 1960s, the pattern of warming is more consistent and significant from 1948 to the present in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Digest is available from the National Weather Association, 1697 Capri Way, Charlottesville, Va 22911-3534
