Western Massachusetts Designer, Rasa Design Studio (http://rasadesign.com) announced the creation of a new eCommerce application, CSSCommerce, which is moving into beta release. The application represents a complete break from osCommerce and the osCommerce forks.

Known for it's massive contribution, CSS osCommerce, which completely rewrote osCommerce to produce CSS tableless XHTML, the firm announced that CSSCommerce is much more poweful and much more search engine friendly.

"We wanted a multi-user system with multi-vendor capabilities," says Sean Rice, owner of the firm. "We wanted marketing to be integral to the application and not an afterthought. Most of all, we wanted the style and layout to be delivered from CSS style sheets for maximum Search Engine Optimization."

Depending on the amount of feedback the firm gets, it may decide to release the source code to the opensource community opting to earn fees from client designs and a freelance job board that specializes in this package.

"We're being cautious," Says Mr. Rice. "On one hand, we have a lot invested in this project. On the other hand, we recognize that a lot of the success of other applications comes from a dedicated community."
