Da Vinci Code Release Inspires Satire

(Los Angeles) The blockbuster film The Da Vinci Code has inspired countless books, DVD's, websites and opinion pieces, but now an L.A. based screenwriter/director has joined the fray with a short film that pokes fun at the Da Vinci phenomenon.

Brian Godawa, whose screenwriting credits include the World War II drama "To End All Wars," as well as the authoring of the book "Hollywood Worldviews" wrote and produced the 6-minute spoof which takes the form of a game show.

"I'm not a fan of boycotts," noted Godawa, "so after hearing the concerns of many in the faith community I decided to write and direct a piece that
illustrates the fact that so many attacks on God and religion are often projections of one's own personal prejudice or political agenda, which is
ironic because that is what religious people are most often accused of."

In his book "Hollywood Worldviews" Godawa zeroes in on the messages that Hollywood sends through movies and believes that while Da Vinci may be an interesting work of fiction, it's historical and theological validity is on the level of UFO abductions, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But more seriously, Godawa believes, it is like The hate-filled hit piece, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," written by an anti-semite to "expose" a
non-existent conspiracy of a cabal of Jews to take over the world.

"Demonizing conspiracies like these tend to feed irrational bigotry against religion," noted Godawa. "The game show was a fun way to get at the insane ideas that the book purports to present as fact. Dan Brown is a good fiction writer, but when he claims to impart historical facts is when he gets into trouble. The difficulty with the film and the book is that he cleverly mixes fact, fiction and anti-Christian bigotry. Our short film will help bring
that prejudice out onto the table for discussion."
