Crime Stoppers Belize Achieving Great Success

The Crime Stoppers Belize (0-800-922-TIPS (8477)) continues to achieve positive results. This program which was launched in July of 2004 is a Rotary coordinated effort which continues to provide the eye witness or those with information of a crime with a medium by which he/she can provide confidential information to the Police.
The following are the results of the efforts of the Crime Stoppers Belize program up to March 2006:

Total tips since inception 400
Total persons arrested 25
Property recovered/ confiscated $11,340

Most recently information provided through the confidential Crime Stoppers 0-800-922-8477 hotline resulted in the arrest of those responsible for the death of Russian national, Alexi Golouber who was found stabbed to death at his Kings Park home on 2 January, 2006. The tip which was received on February 18, 2006 led the Police to the arrest of two men, namely, Aaron King 19 yrs and Llewellyn Williams 19 yrs who were charged with the crime of murder, and are now remanded to Hattiville Prison. A reward has since been paid to the person who provided the information using the Crime Stoppers hotline.

Crime Stoppers has also partnered with Chamber of Commerce’s Anti-Contraband Committee to assist in collecting information on contraband crimes.

The program has also joined NOPCAN (National Organization for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) in the fight against crimes affecting children.

The Crime Stoppers Belize Program is designed to protect the identity of the caller who is never asked their name when they give information. The caller is assigned a code number for the information file, which is then forwarded to the local law enforcement department for the follow up investigation. Callers also use their code to check on the status of the case, add information to the case, report other criminal activity, and to collect their reward.

Crime Stoppers Belize pays cash rewards up to $1000.00 when arrests are made or crimes solved as a result of caller information.
