January 26, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Digital technology in 2004 has come a long way in providing multi-functional devices and products to the work place, especially in the printing industry. There are digital cameras, printers, scanners, everywhere. Not only have they become useful devices to have at work, they have also been popular and ideal for the home because of their inexpensive prices.

One of this digital equipment that became very popular is the all-in-one devices—printers that also scan, copy, and sometimes fax. From very expensive rates, they have come down to something that is affordable and convenient even for users at home that needs an occasional copy or scan, as well as complete models that features additional uses such as fax modems for easy sending and receiving of faxes even without turning on the computer, and duplex printing.

Such is the popularity of all-in-one devices that people have clamored for more units and has been considered by many on the off-chance that they might have a use for the other functions some day.

And as 2004 has come to a close, many of the all-in-one devices have been judged and found excellent by technology magazines and experts. One of them is the Canon MultiPass MP390.

Canon MultiPass MP390

Both PC Magazine and PC World chose the Canon MultiPass MP390 as the Editor's Pick of the year. They were very enthusiastic about three things: its speed, print quality, and its built-in fax capability. As with any of the latest printers, it comes with media slots, thus allowing the user to print from a variety of sources.

According to PC Magazine, the MultiPass MP390 rated from "good" to "very good" for printed output. Its advantages include a built-in fax modem to fax from the users computer, and prints photos directly from camera or camera card. The editors of the magazine found the quality of the photo printing the best, making the MultiPass MP390 a good choice for users with multifunction needs. The bottomline according to them, is that the MultiPass MP390 "prints, scans, faxes, copies, and prints photos directly from cameras and memory cards and lets you fax from programs on your computer… output quality is good to very good—all of which make the MP390 a reasonable choice."

With PC World, the reviewer said that it has a great mix of speed, quality, and features, and can handle both home-oriented and light office tasks as well. It raved about its flatbed scanner, media card slots, and the USB 2.0 port that communicates with PictBridge-compatible digital cameras. Thus, they recommend it to home users and small offices. AND, they add that only the MP390 faxes in color.

"…the MP390 was the only inkjet MFP we tested this month to earn a score of Good… Photographs printed on glossy paper at best settings showed vivid colors and realistic textures. The MP390 made sharper copies of a text document than any other inkjet MFP we tested, earning a Very Good score…"
