Glendale, CA- Independent film distributor Echelon Studios’ insightful film, An American Candidate wins “Best Documentary” honor at the New Jersey International Film & Screenplay Festival.

Beginning on May 19, 2006, the New Jersey International Film & Screenplay Festival is a weeklong celebration of independent filmmaking. One of the biggest winners was Echelon Studio’s documenatary An American Candidate, which follows “Average Joe” filmmaker Dan Byington’s decision to run for Congress on a third party ticket against incumbent Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt.

The strangest David and Goliath pairing in American politics, An American Candidate is a satirical look at democracy in our current big money world of campaign financing. Following the unknown Byington’s small budget campaign with opinions on the issues from Missouria’s voters, “An American Candidate” is the antithesis of special interest politics. Receiving the “Best Documentary” award was especially exciting for Byington who made the trip from Missouri to support his film’s entry in the festival. Although Byington’s Congressional campaign was ultimately unsuccessful, he achieved his goal to create a film that challenged the American conscience.

An American Candidate wasn’t the only success for Echelon Studios. Its haunting drama Unspoken received nominations for “Best Feature Film” and “Best Screenplay.”

Echelon President and Co-CEO, Eric Louzil was excited about Echelon’s success at the festival, remarking that, “Echelon Studios is committed to helping independent filmmakers promote their films and receive recognition for their work outside of the studio system”.

As a production, domestic distribution and foreign sales company, Echelon Studios handles multiple facets of the entertainment industry. Echelon Studio’s library contains more than 250 first run titles, encompassing a wide variety of genre comprised of comedy, drama, horror, documentary, psychological thriller, family, and animation.
