LGBT Organizations Should Not Form Alliances with Pro-Abortion Groups

It is a mistake to link abortion rights as being one and the same right as those of the LGBT community. “No one doubts the work that the NGLTF has done to help further the rights of those within the LGBT community” states Jackie Malone, Executive Vice President of PLAGAL. She adds “As abortion rights have been undergoing a consistent cutback, there has been a simultaneous expansion of gay rights, proving that we don’t have to support abortion on demand in order to obtain our rights.”

PLAGAL maintains that if the theory of a gay gene is proven and isolated, then the day will not be far off when a test for the predisposition of homosexuality will be developed. Once medical science achieves that ability, it will be possible to do by a legal, surgical procedure what all homophobes and gay bashers throughout history have tried and failed to do — to eliminate gays and lesbians once and for all. “Will the NGLTF still want to have these alliances when our own is being killed before they even draw their first breath?” Questions Marc Zappala, Board member of PLAGAL, “It will be interesting to see the dilemma of those who support abortion within our community when the unborn are aborted just for being gay” says Zappala.

Not all members of the LGBT community are pro-choice and it is far past the time when the stereotype imposed on us by some of the “leaders” of our community attempt to force upon us is removed. No survey suggests that members of the LGBT community are any more pro-choice than the average American. Gays and Lesbians come from many different backgrounds and hold widely different belief on many issues. We represent a diversity and pluralism of beliefs at which the rainbow flag only hints. To attempt to enforce a party line on all members of our community is to betray the very cause we are fighting for.

“It is far better for our national LGBT organizations not to take a stance on the issue of abortion as it relates to fighting for the rights of the LGBT community than to combine it and lose the support of those who otherwise would work with them on other worthwhile causes” states Cecilia Brown, President of PLAGAL. She goes on to say “It is no pride to work for the rights of the LGBT community while at the same time taking away the rights of the unborn.”
