Workhaven releases candidate location metrics

June 09, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
LONDON England -Friday 09 June 2006- Workhaven, the popular international recruitment website has relaxed its usual commercial secrecy to reveal the geographical spread of candidates.

Unlike most recruitment facilities, Workhaven does not accept job advertisements but allows employers to set up on-line dialogues with potential candidates and in effect head hunt them. The facility is free to candidates and paid for by employers.

For competitive reasons Workhaven normally has a 'no-comment' policy when queried about metrics so it is unusual to be able to glean any official statistics from them. However, Workhaven has now agreed to provide some indication of the countries its candidates are registering from.

Said Bruce Medhurst, Workhaven CIO, "We've always believed that metrics are as useful to our competitors as they are to us so in the past we've maintained them strictly for our own internal use. However, we are now comfortable that providing publicly available information about candidate geographical spread is useful to both our candidates and our clients and can be done without commercial jeopardy. Accordingly, I am pleased to reveal the following.

As of 5th June 2006, Workhaven has candidates registered from 85 different countries. The top six countries by candidate numbers are the United Kingdom, the USA, the Philippines, Pakistan, India and the United Arab Emirates. The largest, representing approximately 32% of the candidate base is the United Kingdom.

Although Workhaven has multilingual capabilities we have intentionally restricted it to English during its initial growth phase. We've consequently been particularly surprised by the broad geographical spread of candidates and particularly excited by the number of candidates registering from China. Given that English is China's official second language in schools, that more than 20 million children in China start learning English each year and that by 2025 it's projected that there will be more English speakers in China than there are native English speakers in the rest of the world, this creates some exciting opportunities for Workhaven" .
