The war of the sexes, fought with comb and brush
His Hers and Ours," A comedy by Cilque Brown
Reaching the American dream sometimes means walking a path of obstacles. But, in breaking barriers, one can learn, grow and change.
The latest comedic offering by dramatist Cilque Brown is an amusing battle of the sexes that takes place somewhere in the south sometime in the 1940s. His, Hers and Ours is the story of budding entrepreneurs and best friends Rita Jones and Thelma Lou, who partner to open a beauty shop. They find the perfect location, except for the fact that it’s right next door to Burt Carlson’s barbershop.
Burt, a man who thinks that woman should stay at home, cook, clean and take care of children, is not pleased by the new business in town. Loudly complaining to his customers and cohorts about the space being rented to a bunch of hens not to mention the potential loss of their Friday night crap games he threatens them with banishment from his establishment if any go to her aid.
Robert Rickenbacker, who hails from Freeport Long Island, captivates the audience as the local minister who negotiates a peace treaty between Burt Carlson and Rita Jones. While his motives are sincere he is driven by the fact his wife Bullah, just happens to be a customer at Rita and Thelma Lou’s beauty parlor and what she says, is law!
After giving up a career as a military policeman, Robert set off to pursue a career in show business, becoming a multi-talented rapper, actor and songwriter. His latest single, I’m there for you, is being produced under his company, First Team Entertainment. His artistic endeavors have included guest appearances on The Today Show and the WB11 Morning News. Robert can also be seen in two upcoming films, “Nowhere to Go but Up”, starring Jennifer Tilly and “Social Grace”, starring Margaret Cho and BD Wong.
