Baxa Launches New 35 mL Exacta-Med® Oral Dispenser

Englewood, Colo. – Baxa Corporation, Denver-based manufacturer of medical devices and systems, announces the launch of a new 35 mL Exacta-Med Oral Dispenser. The new dispenser size bridges the gap between the 20 and 60 mL dispensers, providing clinicians with greater flexibility for convenient preparation and safe administration of oral medications and enteral feedings. Exacta-Med Oral Dispensers play a vital role in preventing wrong-route administration of non-IV fluid drugs. Their unique dispenser tip cannot connect to a luer needle hub or a needleless IV system.

Designed to ensure dose accuracy while preventing med errors and wrong-route administration of IV drugs, oral dispensers and accessories are recommended by the Institute for Safe Medication Practice (ISMP) for use in oral and enteral fluid drug delivery. “The 35 mL dispenser is ideal for pediatric enteral feeding applications,” notes Product Manager Katie Calabrese. “The enhanced safety when using a dedicated dispenser versus a hypodermic needle is especially critical for neonates and babies.” Numerous customer requests for a size between the 20 mL and the 60 mL dispenser volumes prompted the development of the new 35 mL dispenser size.

Oral dispensers were the first Baxa product and the Exacta-Med brand has been the market leader for more than 30 years. Exacta-Med Dispensers were the first device specially designed for oral liquid delivery only. Baxa also provides specialty dispensers for safe topical and vaginal medication delivery, and its Kwik-Vial™ Containers and accessories provide stability for liquid unit dose drug storage and delivery.
