As part of BookWeek, author Faiz Kermani was invited to Wallace Fields Junior School (www.wallacefields-jun.surrey.sch.uk) in Epsom, UK to talk about his children’s fiction book, "My Alien Penfriend” (www.myalienpenfriend.co.uk).

Suitable for the 8 to 12 year old age group, My Alien Penfriend examines the relationship between an eleven year old boy (Darius) and Zmod, an alien from the distant planet of Bartoch which began when Darius joined the Inter-galactic space Club. Over time, the two children communicate across the galaxy and form a friendship in their quest to learn more about each other’s planets.

As well as hearing extracts from the book, the children were able to ask Faiz about the process of writing a book and what his experiences had been. He ended the visit with a book signing.

“Book Week is a great way to persuade children to read more books and be creative,” commented Faiz. “I really enjoyed speaking to them about my book and I hope it encourages them to pursue their own ideas in the future”.

"The children were enthralled with the idea of being able to name an alien as a penfriend and to explore the idea of life on another planet" said Bob Mapleson, Headteacher of Wallace Fields Junior School.
