Kim Crosby: Biography

Following your dreams often means sacrificing some of the things that are most important to you. In December of 2004, Kim Crosby announced her resignation as principal of Slidell (LA) Junior High School to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series full-time. The desire to compete burns deep within her, and is just one of the many qualities that will lead her to success this season.
Crosby becomes just the third woman to compete in the Busch Series on a full-time basis in 2005.
Crosby made her Busch Series debut at Talladega last season finishing 20th, the best for a rookie in their first race during the ’04 campaign. The Florida native made four other starts during the year, saving her eligibility to compete for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award in ’05.
Crosby got her first taste of stock car racing in April of 2000 after spending 15 years drag racing in the NHRA and IRA leagues. Crosby graduated from the advanced class of the Buck Baker Racing School , and soon returned as an instructor after receiving recognition from the 46-time Winston Cup race winner.
Since 2000, Crosby has been an active instructor for Baker’s school, teaching racing hopefuls how to turn laps around the best tracks in NASCAR, and at the same time continuing to enhance her knowledge of the sport. She thinks of it as the best of both worlds.
Prior to her tenure in NHRA and IRA, she raced for two years in the Florida Fast Track and DeSoto Truck Series. Once circle track racing caught her interest, she dedicated her spare time to increasing her prowess on the track – all while continuing to perform her duties as principal at Slidell Jr. High School . Crosby also competed in four ARCA races in 2004, including three at restrictor plate tracks.
Through her dual careers as racecar driver and educator, Crosby has been able to reach children in a new and exciting way to encourage learning. She constantly relays the message that “problems are merely opportunities in disguise” to her students, and has promoted learning through such programs as Race to Read, Accelerated Reader and Math Mania.
In 2005, Crosby returns to the Busch series with a new team, GIC/PSE-24, a familiar sponsor, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, and a ride for the entire 2005 schedule. With improved equipment, a full-time team and a complete season to work with, Crosby looks to take another step toward becoming a winning NASCAR driver.
