PASADENA, CA - Award winning KKE Architects, Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn. with offices in Las Vegas, Nevada; Pasadena, Irvine and Newport Beach, Calif., announced today it has added another seasoned design professional to its newly opened office in Las Vegas, Nevada. Industry veteran Douglas Ahlstrom was named senior associate and director of housing for the company’s western region. Earlier this year, KKE added Gene Naval as a senior project architect.

Ahlstrom has over 30 years of architectural and planning experience in a wide variety of single and multifamily housing project types including active adult and senior related projects as well as mixed-use projects. Many of his projects have garnered awards and distinctions including Gold Nugget, Homer, MAME, SAGE, SAM and Laurel Awards and Best in Senior Housing.

As Director of Housing for the Western Region, Ahlstrom will be responsible for the marketing and development of residential projects, which includes production housing, senior housing, community and fitness/wellness centers, and residential components incorporated into commercial, office or retail projects. Ahlstrom was formerly the chief operation officer overseeing three offices and senior designer for the active adult and senior projects at Perlman Architects, based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Incorporating a residential component is a high priority for most cities and developers on today’s complicated projects and Doug’s strong housing background will only strengthen the experience and diversity KKE has in this area,” says KKE Managing Principal Brian Arial, AIA. “Doug’s active involvement in industry organizations at the national level and ardent focus on client services reinforce KKE’s mission to expand the vision of our clients.”

“The decision to join KKE Architects was an easy one,” says Ahlstrom. “KKE Architects has a great reputation, the top people in our profession, a management philosophy that rewards excellence and creativity, and an outstanding housing and aging division. I am thrilled to be a valued member of KKE’s diverse team.”

Prior to his tenure at Perlman Architects, he worked for G.C. Wallace in Las Vegas and Danilian Associates in Irvine, Calif. Ahlstrom holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona and is a member of the National Association of Home Builders, National Council on Seniors Housing, Seniors Housing Council of California, Home Builder Association, Building Industry Association, Urban Land Institute, Southern California Association of Non Profit Housing and the Society of Marketing Professionals. He is currently a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada and Newport Beach, California.
