Professional Domino Players to Visit Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City

The Professional Domino Association (PDA) is coming to Kansas City as part of its 2006 season, which includes tournaments in 13 cities across the country. For many tour players, however, the most memorable game of dominoes they play in Kansas City will not take place at the PDA tournament where $30,000 in prize money is up for grabs, but rather when they visit the Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics on Friday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m. Players will distribute sets of dominoes to the hospital's teen patients and teach them how to play the game.

Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock have both hosted similar visits, which were very rewarding for both the players and patients in attendance. Smiles abounded as the children were taught basic domino concepts such as "fishing" and "doing the laundry".

The hospital visits are part of the PDA's effort to give back to the local communities that host tour tournaments. "The game of dominoes has been a gift in each of our lives, bringing us countless hours of joy and entertainment," says PDA Commissioner Jay King. "We hope to share this gift with as many people as possible."

Many of the PDA's top young stars such as Richard Harris and George Bush are scheduled to be in attendance.

The PDA's Kansas City Tournament will be held on June 24th at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center. Registration starts at 12:00 pm and the tournament begins at 1:30 pm.
