Denver Roller Dolls Roll Into Second Season Game July 14

June 24, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Sports News
Denver is bracing itself for the second game in the Denver Roller Dolls’ inaugural roller derby season. The fast, fearless female skaters of Denver’s premier roller derby league are ready to flex some serious grudge muscles at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Denver Coliseum.

Fans have begun to side with their favorite teams - but will the hard-knockin’ cowgirls of the Shotgun Betties bring down the undefeated (and aptly named) Bad Apples? Will the crude corporate Business Casualties manage to discipline the boot camp bruisers of the Green Barrettes? With four more games left in the season, it’s anyone’s guess as to the victor of December’s championship match. What is certain is that Denver’s favorite dolls on wheels will bring their signature brand of brash and brutal skating to America’s favorite fast-paced, flat-track roller sport.

About The Denver Roller Dolls

The Denver Roller Dolls is a skater-owned and -operated nonprofit organization. There is no typical Roller Doll - the women of the DRD encompass a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, shapes and skill levels. They're students, moms and professionals by day - but on the rink they assume tough derby identities like Kitty Kaos, Boo Boo Radley, and Primal Rage. What these women have in common are a need for speed and a love of the millennium's most brutal women's sport.

Invented in the 1930s, roller derby has enjoyed a number of incarnations. The latest combines the adrenaline rush of the sport with a punk-rock sensibility. The game consists of a series of races between two teams of 5 players each, in which blockers attempt to help their team's jammer (scorer) navigate the fast-moving pack while knocking the opposing jammer down.
