NON-CONFORMIST FASHION DESIGNERS INTRODUCE MODEST CLOTHING LINE

After watching local youth circulate petitions to department stores requesting modest clothing, and enduring many of their own disappointing shopping trips, two Phoenix-based women have started a modest clothing company. Their company, Kate’s Closet, offers fashions that are flirty, without being overtly sexy.

“Let’s face it. The juniors’ and missies’ departments are getting a little scary. Sometimes I think designers feel the thinner or younger you are, the less you want to wear. We want to provide an alternative for women and teens who want to dress trendy and hip, but want a higher standard of dress whether for personal, spiritual, or professional reasons,” remarks LaWana Thomasson, co-founder of Kate’s Closet.

Although one might think that few people care about such a concept, Kate’s Closet has already attracted many enthusiasts. Before having any clothing available for purchase on their website, they attracted more than 10,000 women and teen supporters from around the country. After officially launching in May 2006, the clothing design house is just starting to spread the word to the masses.

Kate’s Closet offers knit tops, skirts and dresses, designed to be a cohesive line that can be interchanged to create a truly wearable wardrobe. Their standards for modesty include the following:
• Tops show a little neck and chest, but do not hit lower than 3 ½ inches from the neck line.
• Sleeves always feature at least a cap sleeve.
• Tops’ length measurements are 23 inches or longer.
• Skirts and bottoms are knee-length or longer.

The clothing line is available for purchase online at www.KatesCloset.com and through exclusive in-home Trunk Shows. They hope to launch soon into specialty boutiques and retail stores around the country.
