Canadian Entrepreneur in Competition for Web Prize

July 02, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Vancouver, BC – June 28, 2006 – Glenda Watson Hyatt has cerebral palsy. A lack of oxygen at birth meant she would not be able to walk, her hands would not function well and her speech would be almost impossible to understand. Her parents were advised to institutionalize her. She wouldn't amount to anything, the experts said.

Yet, this gutsy redhead proved them wrong. Today, as an adult, Glenda gets around in an electric scooter (wheelchair) and has very limited speech. But, this has NOT stopped her from making her mark on the world. She is a university graduate, an accomplished writer and a specialist in making web sites accessible for all.

As a pioneer in the internet world she is a true hero to many who know her. “Glenda has inspired me to always look forward and keep pushing myself – even during those times I may have felt like quitting”, says Wendy McClelland of Think Without Boundaries (www.thinkwithoutboundaries.com), one of her many fans. McClelland, herself a business entrepreneur, considers Watson Hyatt to be one of the new pioneers for people with disabilities.

Glenda is currently writing her autobiography, I'll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy, to be published later this year. Glenda intimately shares her life story to show others cerebral palsy is not a death sentence, but rather a life sentence.

This month, Watson Hyatt's website www.booksbyglenda.com has been nominated for a Mega Marketing Makeover from Suzanne Falter-Barns of Get Known Now! (www.getknownnow.com). Ms. Falter-Barns is a well known American promotional expert, who specializes in helping people get noticed by the media. The Mega Marketing Makeover is worth over $12,000.

As one of four finalists Glenda is relying on votes from the general public to win this great prize! “By having my fellow entrepreneurs, and the general public in my own community vote for me would really mean so much,” typed Glenda in a recent discussion. The public is invited to vote at http://getknownnow.com/MMM06FinalVote.html. Voting closes on Wednesday, July 5th.
